Acer Revises down Smartphone Shipment Projection; Upbeat about Wearables
September 14, 2015

Acer has revised down its projection of smartphone shipments in 2015 from six million units to five million units, saying it will focus more on niche market and profitability, reported Economic Daily News on September 14. The company's strategy is to enter China with niche market products while expanding market share in other emerging markets, such as Brazil, India, and Indonesia. Acer also plans to cooperate with more off-line distribution channels and telecom operators in Japan and India. The company's flagship smartphones will be priced over US$300 while its mid-rangers will go below the US$199 price point.

Meanwhile, bolstered by a strong demand in the US market, Acer has an optimistic outlook for its wearable products, expecting to ship over 500,000 units—mostly smart wristbands—in 2015. Acer is seeing a boom in its wearable business. The company's revenue from smart wearables in the first quarter of 2015 has surpassed that in the whole year 2014.
